Software Engineer - Access Edge Terminal Software (Satellite)

Location: Duluth, Georgia; Carlsbad, California; or Germantown, Maryland, United States. Site-based role requiring work from a hirify.global office or work location at least 3 days (60%+) per week. Valid work permit or visa for the country of work is required.

Salary: $117,000–$185,000 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $145,000–$218,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deliver, and support embedded software for Ka-band, L-band, and 5G satellite terminal products.
• Contribute to software engineering within an agile development team alongside a technical lead.
• Drive software product development and participate in design, development, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with other embedded software teams to achieve development, quality, agility, and delivery goals.
• Produce software as an individual contributor and travel up to 10%.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science or computer engineering.
• 3–5 years of hands-on software development experience using C/C++ and Python.
• 3–5 years of experience with Linux/UNIX.
• Hands-on experience with object-oriented methodology and development.
• Experience using AI tooling in software development.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate software design and existing codebases.
• Strong ownership, excellent communication, collaboration skills, and detail-oriented analytical problem-solving abilities.

Nice to have

• Experience with C/C++, Python, and Rust, including writing unit tests for these languages.
• Experience with POSIX and Bash shell scripting.
• Experience with build infrastructure tools such as GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Experience with Linux kernel development.
• Understanding of multithreaded programming and applications.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
• Coursework or familiarity with RF and satellite communications principles.
