Assignment Editor, Network News Desk

Location: New York, United States. Hybrid schedule requiring office work at least four days per week.

Salary: USD 70,000–85,000 yearly.

What you will do

• Coordinate the gathering, feeding, research, and coverage of domestic breaking news and ongoing stories.
• Provide editorial and logistical support to broadcast, cable, digital, and streaming platforms.
• Collaborate with NBC News teams on newsgathering, social media initiatives, content distribution, and on-air needs.
• Coordinate with Legal, Standards, R&C, affiliates, bureau teams, technical staff, and operations teams to obtain guidance and manage resources.
• Monitor social media, web sources, competing broadcasts, cable, and digital platforms.
• Develop story coverage plans, maintain story and contact files, participate in network-wide conferences, and manage field-team requests.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of editorial production experience at a network, cable, or digital outlet.
• Proficiency with newsroom systems and social media platforms.
• Solid working knowledge of TV production, affiliates, and satellite operations.
• Strong news judgment, research, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, manage multiple deliverables, and work under tight deadlines.
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts, sometimes with little or no warning.
• Strong knowledge of and interest in news and current events.
• Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience at a major-market outlet or network handling major breaking news.
• Interest in and experience with multiple platforms, including broadcast, cable, web, and mobile.
• Ability to communicate directives and status updates to technical and non-technical resources.
• Innovative and flexible approach, with the ability to suggest solutions.
• Fluency in another language is a plus but not required.
