TL;DR
Quantum Compilation Intern M/F (Quantum Computing/Compiler Design): Developing and integrating compilation algorithms for a fault-tolerant cat-qubit quantum computer with an accent on intermediate representations, compilation passes, circuit optimization, and resource benchmarking. Focus on translating quantum compilation research into tested software, exploiting phase-flip noise bias, and evaluating qubit, gate, and runtime costs.

Location: Paris, France; hybrid workplace. The internship starts between January and March 2027 and lasts 6 months.

What you will do

  • Study cat-qubit physics, including phase-flip noise bias, gate sets, connectivity, and error-correction constraints.
  • Review compiler design from frontend to code generation and assess circuit synthesis, routing, and optimization techniques for cat-qubit architectures.
  • Design and implement compiler intermediate representations and compilation passes.
  • Integrate, test, and document compilation passes in the existing compiler.
  • Measure qubit count, gate count, and runtime, compare results with existing approaches, and report findings.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program (M1 or M2) or in the final year of an engineering school in physics, computer science, or applied mathematics.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Strong foundations in quantum computing and computer science, including quantum circuits, gate sets, and quantum error correction.
  • Understanding of compiler concepts, including intermediate representations, compilation passes, and program analysis.
  • Solid grounding in algorithms and data structures, including graph algorithms.
  • Software engineering experience with Git, testing, and documentation.
  • Ability to read, synthesize, and apply scientific literature.
  • Scientific rigor, autonomy, and clear written and oral communication.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • No minimum professional experience is required; the ability to translate scientific methods into working, tested code is expected.

Nice to have

  • Prior projects in quantum computing, compilers, or scientific software.
  • Experience with a compiled language such as C++ or Rust.

Culture & Benefits

  • Applications are welcomed from candidates who meet only part of the listed requirements.
  • The requirements are presented as a guide, with an emphasis on building innovative teams rather than checking every box.
