TL;DR
Quantum Compilation Intern M/F (Quantum Computing): Designing, compiling, and optimising magic state distillation factories for a fault-tolerant quantum computer with an accent on quantum error correction, logical instruction sets, factory layouts, and resource estimation. Focus on exploring multi-parameter factory designs, running circuit-level noise simulations, and developing tools for magic and potentially Clifford state factories.
Location: Paris, France; hybrid workplace.
Company
Alice & Bob is developing a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer based on superconducting Schrödinger cat qubits with autonomous quantum error correction.
What you will do
Review magic state distillation research, including single- and multi-output protocols, qubit recycling, unfolded physical-level distillation, and two-stage strategies.
Compile selected distillation protocols into Alice & Bob’s logical instruction set, incorporating magic state injection and hardware connectivity constraints.
Design and optimise repetition-code and LDPC-code factory layouts by jointly considering code distances, parallelism, operation placement, and space-time volume.
Develop resource-estimation tools and run circuit-level noise simulations to evaluate factory costs and output fidelities.
Design new distillation protocols where needed and potentially extend the tools to Clifford state factories.
Document results in internal reports and contribute to publications or invention disclosures where relevant.
Requirements
Master’s degree (M2) in progress in physics, computer science, or quantum engineering.
Proficiency in English.
No prior professional experience is required; previous research or internship experience in quantum information is an asset.
Solid foundations in quantum computing and quantum information, including the stabilizer formalism.
Programming skills in Python for scientific computing.
Ability to read and critically assess research literature.
Rigorous, autonomous approach and clear written and oral communication in English.
Curiosity and comfort with open-ended research questions, independent work, and regular collaboration with the team.
Nice to have
Knowledge of quantum error correction, including CSS codes, repetition codes, LDPC codes, lattice surgery, and magic state distillation.
Familiarity with classical coding theory.
Experience with stabilizer simulation tools such as Stim.
Experience with combinatorial optimisation or SAT/SMT solvers such as Z3.
Culture & Benefits
Internship in a diverse team of more than 250 people from over 35 countries.
1 day off per month.
Half of transportation costs covered in accordance with French law.
Meal vouchers through Swile and access to a fully equipped, regularly stocked kitchen.
Early-stage startup environment with opportunities to share knowledge, develop ideas, and grow.
