Data Lead (Energy Trading)

What you will do

• Own trading data as a product across power market data, weather forecasts, grid and system data, fuel prices, and fundamentals.
• Ship datasets and production pipelines quickly, while identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks across ingestion, storage, and delivery.
• Design canonical schemas supporting point-in-time correctness, revisions, late-arriving data, and backtesting without lookahead bias.
• Evaluate, onboard, and manage data vendors based on coverage, latency, licensing cost, and trading value.
• Build monitoring for data freshness, completeness, and anomalies, with a clear response process for broken feeds.
• Lead and grow an engineering team and map data flows across the business to enable new sources and prevent downstream issues.

Requirements

• Track record of owning and shipping data products to real users or customers, including pipelines, data quality, delivery, and accountability for outcomes.
• Track record of leading people and coordinating across teams, with a clear understanding of how data flows through a business.
• Technical rigour, including the ability to investigate systems deeply, profile them, and untangle performance bottlenecks.
• Strong schema design for time series and event data, including revisions, late-arriving data, and entity mapping across vendors.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience running production pipelines at scale.
• Experience evaluating and negotiating with data vendors based on cost versus value.

Nice to have

• Experience building or running a data vendor business or owning a comparable data product end to end.
• Background in a trading firm, hedge fund, or other market-facing environment.
