CTO (AI)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; hybrid with 2 days in the office.

Salary: AUD 300,000+ per year, excluding superannuation; equity offered.

hirify.global builds software and AI agents for construction, infrastructure, and industrial companies, including Dashpivot, Gearbelt, Flowsite, the hirify.global mobile app, and the Storm data capture agent.

What you will do

• Own the engineering delivery system across Global Platform, EPD Ops, release engineering, QA infrastructure, security posture, and engineering tooling.
• Lead engineering organisation design, career tracks, levels, compensation architecture, hiring standards, and the engineering operating cadence.
• Increase production throughput from AI-assisted engineering while maintaining quality, including feature flags, staged rollouts, fast rollback, and trunk-based development.
• Build verification, schema-contract, strict-typing, QA, security-testing, and agent-evaluation systems across the product stack.
• Develop Staff Engineers, Tech Leads, and engineering function leads while partnering with Product, Operations, GTM, Marketing, the CEO, executive leadership, and the board.
• Personally review code, ship across the main product repositories, make platform and AI-stack build/buy/partner decisions, and represent engineering to customers and candidates.

Requirements

• Proven ability to diagnose and remove delivery bottlenecks across code review, deployment, and quality.
• Current hands-on technical depth, including the ability to explain a recent technical decision made personally.
• Direct experience with agentic delivery infrastructure, including sandboxes, evaluation harnesses, deterministic gates, and AI-assisted review.
• A clear point of view on structuring engineering teams and ownership as they scale.
• A track record of compressing delivery timelines and resisting process or tooling for its own sake.
• Experience building and developing Staff Engineering or technical leadership layers.
• Comfort operating between engineering and executive leadership, including board exposure.
• Experience leading engineering through a high-growth, high-change period, ideally including a scale-up transition and a change in how software is built.
• Ability to operate with ambiguity, make decisions from an initial hypothesis, raise uncomfortable truths early, lead by example, and choose in-person, embedded leadership.
• Essential tools: TypeScript or JavaScript, Node.js, React or Angular, MongoDB, and AWS or a comparable cloud platform.

Nice to have

• React Native or mobile experience.
• Observability tooling such as HyperDX, Datadog, Bugsnag, or Sentry.
• Infrastructure as code with CDK or Terraform.
• Feature flag and release engineering platforms.
