Principal Back-End Engineer (Kotlin/Spring Boot): Designing and hardening the runtime layer of a no-code workflow platform that executes durable workflow graphs with Temporal, HTTP, agent, LLM, and human-review nodes with an accent on distributed reliability, contract-first APIs, and recovery design. Focus on implementing retry-safe orchestration, idempotency, replay safety, pause/resume behavior, integration testing, and graceful degradation across multi-service Kotlin and Python systems.

What you will do
- Design and harden the Kotlin/Spring Boot runtime for reliable production execution of workflow graphs.
- Implement Temporal workflows, activities, signals, queries, retries, and recovery paths.
- Strengthen contract-first APIs and shared contracts across the platform.
- Design for distributed execution failures, idempotency, partial failure, replay safety, pause/resume, and graceful degradation.
- Support HTTP, agentic tool-calling, LLM, and human-in-the-loop workflow nodes while collaborating with Composer and AI/KB teams.
- Improve integration testing, operational documentation, and reliability runbooks.
Requirements
- Strong production experience with Kotlin backend development and Spring Boot in distributed systems or platform services.
- Production experience with Temporal and a strong understanding of workflow durability, retries, idempotency, and recovery design.
- Experience with multi-module Gradle codebases, contract-first API development, JPA/Hibernate, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Docker Compose and Testcontainers integration testing.
- Ability to debug multi-service systems with Kotlin and Python components; familiarity with observability tools such as Micrometer.
- Advanced English is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with DAG, workflow, or orchestration engines.
- Experience with AI, LLM, agent runtimes, or other non-deterministic execution systems.
- Familiarity with FastAPI-based workers and cross-language integration.
- Experience with OAuth2/JWT, token-provider abstractions, cached token acquisition, and reliability documentation.
