Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) (Tech Lead)

Location: On-site in O'Fallon, Illinois, United States, with support for Scott AFB, Illinois and other locations throughout the country

What you will do

• Provide expert technical and strategic guidance for DoD and Air Force cybersecurity, enterprise infrastructure, security architecture, risk management, and compliance.
• Lead the implementation of cybersecurity controls aligned with NIST, RMF, DoD frameworks, Zero Trust guidance, and Air Force Zero Trust Architecture.
• Assess systems and Zero Trust activities, identify architecture deficiencies, and recommend alignment with Air Force Zero Trust roadmaps.
• Develop policies, directives, CONOPS, implementation plans, baselines, configuration controls, and other cybersecurity and governance documentation.
• Coordinate with portfolio managers, program offices, government leads, and stakeholders on Zero Trust requirements, transition activities, training, and exercises.
• Build reporting and oversight capabilities, including implementation-plan tracking, executive briefings, metrics, and support for senior DoD, Air Force, and congressional reporting.

Requirements

• Active Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
• CISSP or equivalent IAT/IAM Level III certification.
• At least 15 years of IT experience, including work with DoD, federal agencies, or Fortune 400 organizations.
• Hands-on experience with Air Force or DoD enterprise infrastructure, governance, policies, and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, RMF, DoD 8500 series, enterprise cybersecurity projects, and complex environments.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in Zero Trust technologies, implementation, and enterprise security architecture.
• Zero Trust, cloud service provider security, DevSecOps, or Microsoft cybersecurity architecture certifications.
• Artificial Intelligence training or certification.
