Customs Intern

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; hybrid position requiring the intern to be based in the Netherlands for the full six-month internship

Allowance: €625 per month for a 40-hour, five-day working week, plus reimbursement of travel expenses

What you will do

• Prepare and support live import and export customs declarations from data collection through submission and follow-up.
• Work with customs regimes, including release for free circulation and returned goods relief.
• Apply preferential and non-preferential rules of origin.
• Review declarations against commercial invoices, packing lists, and transport documents, flagging discrepancies.
• Improve the customs error log and contribute to compliance analysis.
• Investigate the root causes of customs delays and propose actions to improve customer care satisfaction.

Requirements

• EU working rights are required; candidates must have EU citizenship or be studying in the Netherlands.
• EU/EEA students must be enrolled at a Dutch university for at least 50% of the internship period; non-EU students must be enrolled for the full duration.
• Final-stage Bachelor’s student or Master’s student in Supply Chain, Customs, International Trade, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
• Strong accuracy, attention to detail, problem-solving, organisation, and communication skills.
• Comfort using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; basic SAP knowledge is sufficient.
• Ability to manage deliverables, contribute to multiple projects, and work with stakeholders in a multicultural environment.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of customs processes and customs declarations.
• Master’s background in Customs or a related field.
• Previous internship or work experience.
