AI Engineer (Agentic AI)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; full-time onsite

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 per annum, plus superannuation

An early-stage Australian technology company building production-grade AI agents for the vocational education and training sector, with real users, revenue, and established business support.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain production agentic AI systems.
• Develop integrations with APIs, OAuth, webhooks, and business platforms.
• Own AI architecture, compute, costs, scalability, and technical direction.
• Establish AI evaluation, testing, monitoring, and security practices.
• Guide and review the work of a small technical team.
• Advise leadership on AI strategy, tooling, and build-versus-buy decisions.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional engineering experience.
• Production experience with agentic AI systems.
• Strong REST API, OAuth, webhook, and integration skills.
• Understanding of AI security, prompt injection, and data privacy.
• Experience with monitoring, testing, version control, and deployment.
• Strong communication and technical leadership skills.
