Staff Software Engineer, HR Experience

Location: New York, NY; hybrid work with office attendance approximately 2–3 days per week

Cash compensation: $197,000–$247,000 per year for New York.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain features for the HR Experience product surface.
• Develop clean, well-tested, and maintainable code across frontend, backend, and data layers.
• Own projects end-to-end, from scoping and technical design through deployment and production monitoring.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Improve reliability, performance, and quality; participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response for owned systems.
• Provide technical guidance and code-review mentorship to less-tenured engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full-stack development.
• Experience shipping features spanning frontend, backend, and data layers with minimal oversight.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend technology such as Ruby on Rails, Node, or Python/Django, and one frontend technology such as React or TypeScript.
• Understanding of relational database schema design, migrations, and query performance.
• Experience with data structures, algorithms, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including technical design documentation and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience in HR tech, payroll, or fintech.
• Experience designing REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Exposure to accessibility best practices.
