Engineering Manager, Tax Compliance

Location: New York, New York, with the position based in the New York City office

Base wage: $212,000–$274,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead a player-coach engineering team building the core computation layer for payroll, money movement, and tax calculations.
• Set the team’s technical strategy, quarterly roadmap, priorities, and success measures with Product.
• Drive projects that scale tax and money movement capabilities, improve financial ledger integrity, and strengthen payroll data interfaces.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Design, Product, and other teams to define requirements and deliver customer-facing features.
• Mentor, hire, develop, and retain engineers while fostering technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Lead technical decision-making and improve internal workflows and user experiences.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer working on production web applications.
• At least 1 year of experience managing a team of engineers.
• Experience prioritizing, developing, and delivering plans.
• Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Solid knowledge of data structures, data stores, algorithms, distributed systems, and common web development patterns.
• Experience with technologies including Golang, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, MySQL, Kafka, AWS, Git, Memcache, Redis, Elasticsearch, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, CircleCI, and Datadog.
