Equipment & Automation Engineer (Medical Devices): Owning and optimizing production equipment for graphene-powered neural technologies, from specification and installation through qualification, maintenance, automation, and continuous improvement with an accent on equipment reliability, microfabrication, and regulated manufacturing. Focus on troubleshooting complex equipment failures, leading capital and qualification projects, developing automation solutions, and ensuring compliance with ISO 13485.
Location: Barcelona, Spain; onsite manufacturing role

What you will do
- Own reliability, predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance strategies for production equipment.
- Lead troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve throughput.
- Define equipment specifications and lead implementation from concept through installation, commissioning, qualification, validation, production release, and handover.
- Coordinate facility readiness, utilities, infrastructure, environmental controls, safety requirements, and equipment hookups.
- Manage equipment manufacturers, service providers, machine shops, and external contractors, including technical drawings, GD&T specifications, statements of work, and acceptance criteria.
- Design custom tools, fixtures, equipment modifications, and automation solutions for microfabrication and semiconductor-to-flexible-substrate integration.
Requirements
- Technical diploma or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, industrial electronics, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience with semiconductor or advanced manufacturing equipment in maintenance, reliability, or equipment engineering.
- Hands-on experience with equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, and qualification.
- Experience managing technical suppliers, service providers, and external contractors.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to work independently and across multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional working proficiency in English and availability to work onsite in Barcelona.
Nice to have
- Experience in cleanroom manufacturing environments.
- Experience with automation, robotics, machine integration, or custom equipment development.
- Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing, MEMS, flexible electronics, or medical device production.
- Experience with regulated environments and quality management systems, particularly ISO 13485.
