Principal Full Stack Engineer (Java)

Location: Fully remote within the United States. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US and must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust determination. Visa sponsorship is not provided.

Salary: $145,000–$155,000 annually.

What you will do

• Lead technical delivery, engineering standards, code reviews, architecture decisions, and technical direction for existing and new systems.
• Design and build a cloud-native replacement platform using containerization and DevOps foundations while maintaining Java, Spring, Tomcat, Oracle, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux applications.
• Develop reusable capabilities for access control, workflow routing, document management, audit history, reporting, notifications, and public-facing APIs.
• Build integrations with federal systems including eRulemaking, FDMS, Regulations.gov, the Federal Register, and Login.gov.
• Lead defect resolution, production stability, data migration, cutover, legacy decommissioning, performance monitoring, and rapid incident response.
• Mentor engineers, guide Agile delivery, and communicate technical options, risks, and recommendations to client technical leads and product owners.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership of development teams.
• Deep hands-on experience with Java and Spring Framework and production web applications.
• Strong relational database experience, preferably Oracle, including data modeling, SQL, and performance tuning.
• Experience with cloud-native containerized applications, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, RESTful APIs, and system integrations.
• Experience modernizing or replacing legacy systems while maintaining production stability, with knowledge of OWASP, Section 508, WCAG 2.1 AA, and Linux environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, plus Agile/Scrum experience and polished stakeholder communication skills.

Nice to have

• Federal government delivery experience, especially with GSA or civilian agencies.
• Experience with Login.gov, federated identity, cloud.gov, AWS, Azure, or related certifications.
• Experience building workflow, case management, or document management systems.
• Familiarity with federal regulatory processes, FISMA Moderate ATO, Grafana, Prometheus, or Loki.
