Staff Antenna Design Engineer (RF)

Location: On-site in Oulu, North Ostrobothnia, Finland. Travel to prototype builds in Europe and Asia is required for approximately 5–20% of the year.

What you will do

• Design, simulate, and optimize high-performance antennas and RF systems for low-power wearable devices, including multi-band and multisystem solutions.
• Perform electromagnetic simulations using tools such as CST Microwave Studio and Ansys HFSS, and validate designs through bench and OTA measurements.
• Build prototypes to evaluate antenna concepts and integrate designs into highly constrained form factors with mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams.
• Conduct OTA testing, troubleshoot performance issues, and drive root cause analysis and design iterations across prototypes and production units.
• Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and internal manufacturing teams to maintain antenna performance during production.
• Document design processes, results, and performance metrics for knowledge sharing and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• 10+ years of antenna and RF design experience, preferably with compact consumer electronics, wearables, or IoT devices.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio, Ansys HFSS, or equivalent tools.
• Experience with vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, radio communication testers, and OTA chambers.
• Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals, antenna concepts, matching networks, and antenna-related PCB layout considerations.
• Knowledge of wireless communication standards and regulatory requirements from organizations such as FCC, ETSI, or ITU.

Nice to have

• Experience designing antennas for wearable or ultra-compact devices.
• Familiarity with Bluetooth, BLE, NFC, wireless charging, and other multisystem antenna solutions and RF protocols.
• Knowledge of SAR compliance and RF regulatory requirements.
• Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners.
