Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: In-person at the NYC HQ in Union Square, New York City, USA

Salary: $175K–$300K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Design, build, and own backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure end-to-end.
• Solve complex distributed-systems, scaling, concurrency, and performance challenges.
• Deploy, serve, and scale large generative AI models in production.
• Partner with product, design, client, and AI teams to deliver reliable production systems.
• Operate platform infrastructure, storage systems, security services, third-party integrations, and internal APIs.
• Instrument systems, run experiments, and iterate on product and system quality.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional industry experience.
• Experience shipping high-impact systems or products to production.
• Strong problem-solving fundamentals and ability to learn quickly.
• Strong engineering judgment, practicality, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and scope and deliver projects end-to-end.
• Ability to work in person at the NYC headquarters.

Nice to have

• Extensive experience with LLMs and generative media models.
• Experience as a startup founder or early engineer.
• Collaborative, grounded approach to solving complex technical problems.
