Senior Product Legal Counsel (Crypto)

What you will do

• Advise Product, Engineering, Compliance, and European leadership on product launches from discovery through design, launch, and iteration.
• Assess regulatory classification and perimeter across MiFID II, MiFIR, MiCA, EMIR, payment services, electronic money, and banking regulation.
• Provide legal advice on cards, account propositions, safeguarding, open banking, stablecoins, tokenised securities, custody, prime brokerage, financing, and lending.
• Monitor European Union legislative and supervisory developments and translate their impact into clear business guidance.
• Lead or oversee licensing, authorisation, variation, regulator-interaction, and outside-counsel workstreams.
• Draft and negotiate client-facing terms, manage external legal spend, mentor junior lawyers, and develop AI-assisted legal tools.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer admitted in Ireland, England and Wales, or another European Union Member State.
• At least 15 years of post-qualification experience in financial services regulatory law.
• Deep expertise in at least two of MiFID II/MiFIR, MiCA, European Union payment and electronic money regulation, and European Union banking regulation.
• Experience analysing novel products across overlapping or unsettled regulatory regimes and managing senior regulator relationships.
• Working knowledge of AML/CTF, the Travel Rule, outsourcing, operational resilience, market abuse, conduct, and DORA.
• Strong drafting, organisational, mentoring, commercial-risk, and plain-English communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously in a remote environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with tokenised securities, the EU Distributed Ledger Technology Pilot Regime, EMIR, prime brokerage, securities financing, margin lending, or institutional custody.
• Experience with the United Kingdom cryptoasset regime, corporate transactions, EU data protection, or consumer protection rules for financial products.
• Fluency in a second European language and a strong interest in crypto and digital assets.
