DataOps Engineering Manager (Azure/Kafka)

Location: Cologne, Germany; remote work possible. Up to 20 work-from-home days per year may be taken anywhere in the EU.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5+ DataOps Engineers through mentoring, one-on-ones, performance management, and career development.
• Design, develop, test, and optimize data ingestion frameworks and production-grade pipelines.
• Work hands-on with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Apache Kafka.
• Own the DataOps strategy, technical priorities, and engineering roadmap.
• Strengthen CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, error handling, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with Data Architects, engineering leaders, product teams, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable technical solutions.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing and developing engineering teams of 5+ people.
• Extensive practical experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Apache Kafka.
• Strong knowledge of data ingestion pipelines, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, error handling, and performance optimization.
• Experience translating business and technical requirements into scalable solutions and making architectural decisions.
• Ability to combine people management with active hands-on engineering and production troubleshooting.
