General Liability Major Case Specialist

Location: Hybrid role based in Morristown, New Jersey, United States; other location: Melville, New York

Annual base salary: $104,000–$171,700, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentives and a sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Independently manage complex, high-exposure bodily injury and property damage claims and related litigation from first notice of loss through resolution.
• Investigate claims, gather evidence, assess liability and damages, and establish appropriate reserves.
• Evaluate coverage, contractual indemnity issues, claim documentation, and potential resolutions.
• Negotiate with claimants, legal representatives, and other parties to achieve fair settlements.
• Develop resolution strategies, coordinate internal and external resources, and partner with counsel on litigation management.
• Prepare reports for senior management, maintain accurate claim records, improve best practices, and adopt new technology including AI tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required.
• At least four years of bodily injury liability, property damage liability, or comparable claims experience; five-plus years of complex bodily injury claim and litigation experience is expected for the ideal candidate.
• Active adjuster license where required by state law, with relevant insurance licenses to be obtained within three months of starting.
• Expert knowledge of insurance principles, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, business-line products, and state and federal insurance regulations.
• Advanced claims management, estimating software, Microsoft Office, and enterprise technology skills.
• Strong investigation, decision-making, communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, organization, and stakeholder-management skills.
