2027 Summer Intern, Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid from the Reston, Virginia office; candidates must be US citizens, reside in the United States, be authorized to work in the United States, and perform all work in the United States.

Salary: $37,855.00–$64,354.00 annually, based on full-time employment.

What you will do

• Support the full AI and machine learning lifecycle, including data acquisition, preprocessing, model design, training, optimization, deployment, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Design and train deep learning, large-scale, NLP, computer vision, and generative AI models.
• Analyze large semi-structured datasets and perform exploratory data analysis and feature engineering.
• Write production-ready software in Python, C++, Java, R, or JavaScript and participate in system design, testing, and code reviews.
• Research and prototype emerging methods such as explainable AI, federated learning, and multimodal models.
• Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to define requirements and deliver AI-driven solutions.

Requirements

• At least 30 completed college-level credit hours by the start date, preferably in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• US citizenship, US residency, US work authorization, and the ability to perform all work in the United States are required.
• Foundation in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
• Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, with a strong preference for Python.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn and with large-scale datasets and data preprocessing.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Git or other version control systems.
