Senior Backend Engineer - Community and Engagement (AI)

Location: Barcelona, Passeig de Gràcia, Spain — hybrid with 3 days in the office per week

Salary: €65,000–€108,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and maintain scalable backend systems for marketing, communication, and member data products.
• Develop agentic AI initiatives and evolve the marketing suite, including campaigns and workflow automation.
• Scale SMS, email, push notification, and future communication channel integrations.
• Improve member data foundations and segmentation tools to help studios understand their communities.
• Lead architecture, implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement of complex technical projects.
• Collaborate with Product and Front-end Engineering, conduct code reviews, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Experience building AI agentic solutions for complex tasks, especially with the LangChain suite.
• Substantial experience with a current object-oriented backend language; Python and Django familiarity is a plus.
• Experience designing scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, code quality, and engineering best practices.
• Ability to make pragmatic decisions on complex technical problems and communicate effectively.
• Professional proficiency in English and availability for the hybrid Barcelona work model are required.

• Familiarity with Python and Django.
• Experience mentoring engineers and shaping technical direction.
