Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle, or New York, with some time in the office and some time remote.

Salary: $167,800–$246,800 USD annual base pay, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Build and improve production agents, starting with the Ask grocery assistant.
• Develop evaluation harnesses and optimization loops to identify failure modes and measure performance on customer tasks.
• Experiment with prompts, tools, skills, context, fine-tuned open-weight models, and small language models.
• Launch new agentic experiences for merchants and Dashers from exploration through production.
• Apply agentic memory, product representations, and post-training capabilities to production agents.
• Partner with engineering, product, and business leaders to define an ML strategy for grocery and retail delivery.

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry machine learning experience.
• Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-based agents, including tool use, context management, prompting, guardrails, evaluations, and data-driven improvement.
• Experience with post-training or fine-tuning open-weight models, such as supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, or reinforcement learning.
• Strong foundation in NLP and machine learning, with proficiency in Python and PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• M.S. or PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
