Senior Backend Software Engineer (AWS)

Location: Gdańsk, Poland; hybrid work with one day per week from the Gdańsk office

Salary: 1,200–1,360 PLN per day net + VAT on a B2B contract

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimise serverless and event-driven backend services on AWS.
• Improve AWS architecture for cost efficiency, performance, scalability, and resilience.
• Optimise event stream processing, including throughput, latency, ordering, retries, and error handling.
• Improve PostgreSQL performance through query optimisation, indexing, partitioning, data modelling, and replication.
• Implement observability with metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, and SLOs.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, testing, and evaluation of technical trade-offs.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Python or Scala.
• 5+ years of hands-on production experience with AWS.
• Experience with AWS services including API Gateway, Step Functions, ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Kinesis, or Amazon MSK.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL optimisation, event-driven architecture, message processing, idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues, and schema evolution.
• Experience with database migrations, backups, point-in-time recovery, Infrastructure as Code, and CloudFormation.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and availability for hybrid work from the Gdańsk office one day per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Scala, Kotlin, Java, CDC tools such as Debezium or AWS DMS, or AWS certifications.
• Knowledge of HL IT products or the container shipping industry.
