Director of Software Engineering, Analytics (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, CO or Washington, DC; requires working from the selected office 3 days per week. US person status and the ability to obtain and hold a US government security clearance are required.

Salary: $180,700–$225,900 USD annual base salary, with potential bonus and equity incentives.

What you will do

• Lead, staff, and scale the engineering organization responsible for analytics models and pipelines built from daily satellite imagery.
• Develop talent strategy, staffing plans, recruiting processes, performance management, and organizational depth.
• Translate program commitments into dated deliverables and manage analytics interfaces with Global Monitoring Service and Maritime Domain Awareness application teams.
• Define the operating model for analytics serving classified and unclassified environments while keeping models dual-use.
• Guide the transition from hand-built detectors and task-specific models to foundation-model-based methods and scale monitoring from hundreds to thousands of sites.
• Plan pipeline cost and capacity for a ten-times scale-up while reporting to the VP of Technology.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software or machine learning engineering, focused on computer vision, geospatial analytics, or high-scale data systems.
• 6+ years leading engineering teams, including direct management of engineering managers and organizational scaling.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Production experience shipping machine learning, computer vision, or geospatial analytics and owning the results.
• Experience with ITAR and EAR requirements and with cleared and uncleared staff on the same team.
• US person status and an active US government security clearance, or eligibility to obtain one upon hire, are required; TS/SCI is preferred.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline.
• Experience moving computer vision teams from task-specific models to foundation models or embeddings.
• Experience delivering analytics into classified, air-gapped, or sovereign cloud environments such as AWS GovCloud or C2S.
• Experience integrating acquired teams or merging engineering groups.
• Knowledge of Synthetic Aperture Radar, maritime analytics, or activity-based intelligence.
