Contract Student Worker - AI Validation and Benchmarking Engineer (AI)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid workplace with on-site work required at a Zoox office

Zoox is an autonomous ride-hailing company developing a fully electric, purpose-built robotaxi.

What you will do

• Run and maintain benchmark pipelines, analyze results, and identify routing errors and regressions across agent variants.
• Build and expand ground-truth datasets for evaluating agent outputs against known-correct answers.
• Improve benchmark validation infrastructure and develop evaluation dimensions for label accuracy and structured output correctness.
• Investigate agent failure modes and collaborate with engineers on actionable improvements.
• Write scripts and tooling for data collection, result parsing, metric reporting, and trend tracking.
• Document findings and present benchmark results to the team.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Available for a minimum three-month assignment and at least 20 hours per week.
• Able to work on-site at a Zoox office.
• Familiarity with Python, Cursor, or Claude.
• Knowledge of precision, recall, F1 score, and confusion matrices.
• Experience with CSV, JSON, and reproducible analysis scripts.

Nice to have

• Exposure to LLM-based systems, prompt engineering, or AI agent evaluation.
• Experience with Jira or Slack.
