Senior Scientist. Organic Chemist (Semiconductor)

Location: Aurora, Illinois, United States; onsite research role

Salary: $85,500–$116,000 per year, with actual pay based on skills and experience

What you will do

• Design, synthesize, isolate, and purify small organic molecules, including silanes, for semiconductor applications.
• Characterize materials using techniques such as NMR, FTIR, LC, GC, and MS, and interpret data in relation to material performance.
• Use structure–property relationships and designed experiments to tune chemical and physical properties.
• Plan, execute, and document an independent research program for internal review, technology transfer, and intellectual property filings.
• Partner with process and manufacturing engineers to scale chemistries from laboratory development through pilot and production, including troubleshooting.
• Present technical findings and collaborate with chemists, engineers, customer representatives, quality specialists, and production teams.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, preferably organic or silane chemistry.
• Demonstrated experience designing, synthesizing, isolating, purifying, and characterizing small organic molecules.
• Ability to interpret analytical data and apply structure–property relationships to material performance.
• Research contributions demonstrated through publications, patents, presentations, technical reports, or commercialized products.
• Ability to plan, execute, and document research activities on schedule.
• Clear written and verbal communication and commitment to laboratory safety.

Nice to have

• Post-doctoral experience and independent research in diverse areas.
• Significant silane chemistry, scale-up, or kiloscale synthesis experience.
• Experience collaborating with colleagues at different career stages.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt experience with DOE analysis and tools such as Minitab or JMP.
