Junior Data Engineer

Location: Berlin, Germany — on-site

Salary: €70,000–€85,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Build and ship production data pipelines from ingestion to storage across near-real-time and batch workloads.
• Develop Python services and APIs used by other teams and products.
• Work with operational databases, including schema design, reliability, and performance under production load.
• Build tests, monitoring, and data quality checks.
• Help keep a data warehouse containing hundreds of terabytes fast, reliable, and cost-efficient.
• Own undefined data problems from initial idea through production delivery.

Requirements

• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• Evidence of engineering depth through a computer science or related degree, internships, open-source work, a thesis, or a self-built system kept in operation.
• Hands-on experience with a database such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB, including schemas and indexes.
• Ability to start independently on ambiguous problems and take ownership beyond the initial request.
• Strong focus on reliability, rigorous debugging, and understanding root causes.
• Ability to use AI tools productively while verifying their output.

Nice to have

• Kafka or Pub/Sub experience.
• Experience with dbt, Docker, or Terraform.
• Competition results or a project built and hardened independently.
