Lead CM Quality Engineer – Assembly (Optoelectronics)

Location: Penang, Malaysia. Full-time role working across office, engineering laboratory, cleanroom, and manufacturing-floor environments; regular interaction with contract manufacturers and global teams, with travel and occasional support outside normal working hours potentially required.

What you will do

• Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement for assigned contract-manufactured optical modules and components from assembly through volume production.
• Own the contract manufacturer quality operating rhythm, performance, escalations, reviews, and cross-functional ownership.
• Govern assembly and test processes including alignment, laser or detector attach, die and wire bonding, fiber handling, epoxy, soldering, cleaning, optical and electrical testing, calibration, screening, and final inspection.
• Implement control plans, PFMEA, process capability requirements, measurement-system controls, traceability, engineering-change controls, and reaction plans.
• Lead containment, root-cause analysis, corrective action, verification, and closure for customer complaints, escapes, returns, audits, and major quality issues.
• Manage quality KPIs and improvement projects covering defect rates, yield, complaints, CAPA, process capability, reliability, delivery stability, and total cost.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optoelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Typically 10+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing, NPI, or operations within optical, photonic, optoelectronic, semiconductor, or electronics manufacturing, including contract-manufacturer experience.
• Knowledge of optical module and component products, assembly processes, test methods, reliability requirements, and manufacturing quality controls.
• Experience leading customer and internal quality issues, corrective actions, audits, NPI or product transfers, and volume-production improvements.
• Experience managing quality KPIs, executive reviews, performance dashboards, and measurable improvement roadmaps.
• Strong English communication skills and the ability to work with contract-manufacturer leaders, customers, and executives across functions and regions.
