Mid Scientist (Defense R&D)

Location: Arlington, Virginia, United States; work in the Arlington office. Travel may include locations within and outside the continental United States, including occasional international travel.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year

What you will do

• Analyze emerging research, performer data, test results, and technical risks across DARPA MXO technology areas.
• Participate in program reviews, site visits, demonstrations, proposal evaluations, and independent technical assessments.
• Evaluate scientific concepts for technical merit, feasibility, military relevance, and potential DARPA investment.
• Prepare briefings, decision materials, technical assessments, trip reports, and other program documentation for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Advise DARPA program managers on planning, execution, cost, schedule, risk reduction, testing, transition, and closeout.
• Coordinate with performers, government partners, test organizations, transition stakeholders, and technical experts.

Requirements

• Master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
• 8 or more years of relevant experience planning and developing complex R&D projects.
• U.S. citizenship required for security-clearance eligibility.
• Experience conducting research using advanced or unconventional methods and making independent judgments on difficult technical issues.
• Experience applying advanced scientific or engineering techniques, theories, and practices relevant to MXO.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Five or more years of experience with DARPA programs.
• Three or more years working with DARPA program managers.
• Peer-reviewed publications or other recognized technical contributions.
