Senior Science Advisor

Location: Arlington, Virginia, United States office. Travel may include locations within and outside the continental United States, including occasional international travel.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000

What you will do

• Advise DARPA MXO leadership and program managers on scientific credibility, strategic relevance, technical risks, and program implications.
• Lead independent analyses of research concepts, performer progress, technical failures, alternatives, and transition opportunities.
• Help shape office strategy, new program concepts, trade studies, sensitivity analyses, and new-start materials.
• Assess programs through technical reviews, laboratory results, tests, demonstrations, site visits, and other program events.
• Coordinate with performers, Government partners, test organizations, transition stakeholders, and technical experts.
• Develop executive briefings, decision materials, technical assessments, trip reports, and program documentation while mentoring the support team.

Requirements

• PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering field.
• At least 18 years of relevant experience and recognized authority in a highly specialized scientific or technical area.
• U.S. citizenship required for security-clearance eligibility.
• Executive-level scientific advisory experience and experience advising senior Government, research, industry, or academic leaders.
• Ability to conduct sophisticated R&D analyses, evaluate alternatives, and provide clear strategic recommendations.
• Substantial publication and thought-leadership record with national or international recognition.

Nice to have

• Prior experience as a DARPA program manager or senior SETA advisor.
• Experience with DARPA programs and DARPA program managers.
• Experience spanning basic research, applied research, prototypes, and technology transition.
