Director, Security Operations (AI)

Location: Remote from Virginia, United States

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop SOC analysts, detection engineers, red team operators, cyber threat intelligence analysts, and exposure management analysts.
• Define the security operations strategy, service model, operating standards, capability roadmap, and governance practices.
• Oversee monitoring, alert triage, investigations, escalations, incident response, threat hunting, and continuous improvement across customer and enterprise environments.
• Serve as the senior operational leader during major incidents, coordinating containment, recovery, and executive and customer communications.
• Lead detection engineering, including use-case development, validation, tuning, coverage assessment, MITRE ATT&CK mapping, and lifecycle management.
• Partner with Security Engineering, IT, the Project Management Office, customers, and enterprise stakeholders on telemetry, automation, service delivery, proposals, and strategic engagements.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in cybersecurity, security operations, incident response, detection engineering, threat intelligence, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience leading cybersecurity or security operations teams, preferably at the Director level or above in a large SOC, MDR, or multi-customer environment.
• Deep knowledge of SOC operations, incident response, detection engineering, threat hunting, cyber threat intelligence, and security operations metrics.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR/XDR, identity, network, cloud, email, and other security telemetry used for detection and investigation.
• Proven ability to lead complex incidents and communicate technical risk, operational performance, and response decisions to technical leaders, executives, and customers.
• Strong judgment, communication, customer-facing, team-building, and operational planning skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in managed security services, managed detection and response, enterprise SOC, or other multi-customer environments.
• Experience applying AI to alert triage, investigations, quality assurance, knowledge management, reporting, and workflow automation.
• Experience with SOAR platforms, public cloud and hybrid environments, quality assurance programs, service-level commitments, and operational change.
• CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, or a comparable advanced cybersecurity certification.
