Undergraduate Student 3 (Environmental Chemistry)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; candidate must reside in California and live within a commutable distance from SDSU at the time of hire.

Salary: $19.67 per hour, non-negotiable

What you will do

• Mobilize and prepare equipment for field and laboratory testing.
• Prepare, digest, extract, and analyze water and sediment samples using LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS.
• Analyze target contaminants including PCBs, PAHs, PFAS, trace metals, and total and methyl mercury.
• Process and interpret data using Xcalibur, Chromeleon, Compound Discoverer, Microsoft Excel, and statistical software.
• Maintain laboratory facilities, glassware, water-quality meters, and seawater systems.
• Conduct literature searches and contribute to sponsor reports while following laboratory QA/QC procedures.

Requirements

• Must be a US citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
• Must reside in California within commuting distance of SDSU at the time of hire.
• Senior-level undergraduate student with coursework in Marine Biology, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry.
• Must have experience with 100% of the task requirements and be able to complete 90% of the work independently.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS, analytical sample preparation, and water, sediment, or tissue matrices.
• Coursework in marine biology, statistics, chemistry, environmental science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering.
• Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, statistical software, or environmental sampling equipment design.
