TL;DR
Staff Engineer (AI): Building the shared engineering foundation for Aiven's internal applications, including the hiring platform and credential gateway, with an accent on safe, maintainable application delivery and AI-assisted development. Focus on designing reusable infrastructure, enforcing security and operational boundaries, and enabling teams across the business to build and run applications independently.
Location: Helsinki, Finland; hybrid work with three days per week in the office

What you will do
- Evolve the shared engineering foundation for building, deploying, and operating internal applications and AI agents.
- Own and improve the hiring platform and shared credential gateway across application code, infrastructure, and production operations.
- Establish architectural patterns and engineering standards for authentication, integrations, deployment, and operations.
- Own release paths, migrations, failure handling, security controls, access control, and unattended automation.
- Enable Finance, People, Sales, and operations teams to build and operate applications independently.
- Build on Runtime and feed operational learnings back into the product.
Requirements
- End-to-end ownership of meaningful production software, including incident and failure handling.
- Strong software engineering depth with the ability to own underlying infrastructure and production environments.
- Experience influencing engineering decisions through design reviews, mentoring, and technical standards.
- Practical experience using AI coding agents and designing safe context, testing, permissions, and review boundaries.
- Ability to make architecture and product trade-offs under ambiguity.
- Typically 8+ years of experience building and operating software.
Nice to have
- Experience building internal developer platforms or shared foundations used by multiple teams.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, Python, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with identity and access control or systems handling sensitive personal data.
- Experience putting agents and unattended automation into production with technical controls.
