Quality Engineering Lead / Automation Architect (Playwright)

Location: Remote within Canada

Salary: CAD 117,000–143,000 per year for roles performed in Ontario or British Columbia

POMS develops Manufacturing Execution System software solutions for the life sciences industry and is investing in automated quality engineering, modern software delivery, and AI-assisted testing.

What you will do

• Own the test automation strategy, roadmap, Playwright framework, coding standards, and review practices.
• Design and build scalable Playwright test suites in TypeScript across functional, API, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Partner with Development and DevOps to improve automated regression pipelines, environments, test data, and parallel execution.
• Lead and develop a QA team by establishing coaching, delegation, ownership, and career development practices.
• Define release readiness criteria, quality gates, dashboards, and KPIs for automation coverage, escaped defects, and team performance.
• Lead root cause analysis, shift-left testing, risk-based testing, and validation activities in a regulated software environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software quality assurance and testing experience.
• Expertise building enterprise-scale automation frameworks with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or comparable tools, with strong TypeScript or JavaScript skills.
• Strong software engineering skills including Git, API testing, SQL, debugging, code review, and CI/CD integration with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or comparable platforms.
• Experience scaling automation through coaching, standards, delegation, and QA team leadership.
• Experience testing complex web-based enterprise applications in Agile environments, using quality metrics and KPIs to drive decisions.

Nice to have

• Substantial hands-on experience building Playwright suites in TypeScript using fixtures, workers, parallelization, test isolation, retries, and traces.
• Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare, or medical devices, including GxP and 21 CFR Part 11.
• Experience with mixed TFVC and Git environments, migration to Git, or transforming manual QA organizations into automation-focused teams.
• Experience applying AI or machine learning to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.
• Knowledge of performance and security testing methodologies.
