Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Communications (Machine Learning)

Location: Hybrid work from the Shanghai, Beijing, or Nanjing offices in China, or the Pune or New Delhi offices in India.

What you will do

• Handle original research manuscripts and assess their quality, novelty, and suitability for publication.
• Manage manuscript selection, peer review, editorial decisions, and publication workflows.
• Collaborate with authors, reviewers, researchers, and industry experts to maintain a rigorous and transparent review process.
• Contribute to editorial policies, peer review practices, scientific integrity, and publishing process improvements.
• Partner with the Chief Editor on journal development strategy, content growth, special collections, and high-quality submissions.
• Represent Nature Communications and hirify.global at conferences and within the global research community while developing scientific content and supporting editorial knowledge exchange.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent in physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
• Thorough understanding of machine learning, computer science, or related areas such as computer vision, neural networks, natural language processing, agentic AI, algorithms, and statistical physics.
• Fluent English in written and spoken communication is required.
• Ability to critically assess research from different areas and understand its scientific context and implications.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration, conflict-management, and relationship-building skills.
• Willingness to travel and meet scientists worldwide.

Nice to have

• Postdoctoral research experience.
• Experience with machine learning and computer science.
• Significant editorial experience for consideration at Senior Editor level.
