Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States. Work is in-person, with occasional travel to client sites approximately 1–2 times per month.

Salary: $180,000 base; $220,000–$500,000+ OTE.

What you will do

• Build, implement, and present AI solutions on clients’ existing technology stacks.
• Ship production software across the full stack in collaboration with clients and internal engineers.
• Partner with an AI strategist while owning technical build and delivery.
• Lead technical initiatives and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
• Support pre-sale scoping when needed.
• Travel to client sites approximately 1–2 times per month.

Requirements

• 3–8 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong full-stack engineering experience shipping production software in a team environment.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining web applications and agentic applications.
• A track record of leading technical initiatives and working independently.
• Comfort with an in-person, fast-paced environment in San Francisco and willingness to work beyond a standard week.
• Client-facing experience is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience as a founder, CTO, or founding engineer at a startup.
• Experience running an engineering-led AI consulting effort.
• Computer science or engineering education.
