Hardware Engineering Interns (Networking Hardware)

Location: San Francisco, United States; on-site. The 12-week internship may involve collaboration with manufacturing partners in Taiwan.

Estimated pay: $40–$50 per hour. Relocation and housing stipend available.

What you will do

• Own a well-scoped hardware engineering project from an open question through an evidence-backed recommendation.
• Design, build, and test electrical or mechanical prototypes for future networking products.
• Evaluate components, technologies, architectures, materials, and suppliers.
• Write test plans and characterize performance, reliability, thermal behavior, acoustics, power, and other system-level behavior.
• Work with manufacturing partners in Taiwan to understand capabilities, constraints, cost, and scalability.
• Present findings and recommendations to the hardware team and leave behind usable data, prototypes, test results, requirements, supplier evaluations, or tools.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
• Ability to break ambiguous technical problems into questions that can be answered through engineering and experimentation.
• Experience building, testing, debugging, or taking apart hardware on a design team, in a lab, or at home, or strong eagerness to begin doing so.
• Comfort working with physical systems such as PCBAs, mechanical assemblies, test equipment, prototypes, manufacturing data, or supplier samples.
• Ability to explain technical findings clearly and turn work into actionable recommendations.

Nice to have

• Experience with PCB design, CAD, embedded systems, thermal design, or data analysis.
