What you will do

• Contribute to quantum technology studies, early-phase projects, and implementation missions focused on secure and quantum communication.
• Coordinate subsystems and interfaces and define customer, mission, and system requirements.
• Establish technical baselines, evaluate performance and programmatic trade-offs, and manage internally and externally developed solutions.
• Plan system- and subsystem-level test campaigns and compile documentation according to space standards.
• Manage work packages and sub-projects while serving as a technical point of contact for subcontractors and customers.
• Lead or support proposal development, including technical baselines, development logic, work breakdown structures, budgets, and engineering activities.

Requirements

• PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, or an equivalent field with a focus on quantum optics or quantum technology.
• In-depth knowledge of quantum technologies, especially quantum key distribution, quantum memories, quantum sensors, and entanglement in quantum networks.
• Hands-on laboratory experience in technology development up to TRL 4, ideally involving space-based QKD or free-space optics.
• System engineering experience in an industrial environment or strong motivation to learn systems engineering methods.
• Solution-oriented, self-managed, proactive working style with strong motivation to turn ideas into reality.
• Applications may be submitted in German or English.

Nice to have

• Experience designing and implementing secure and quantum communication systems for ground or space applications.
• Experience motivating and leading small technical teams.
• Professional experience in the space industry or space-related projects.
