Staff Software Engineer and Tech Lead (Kubernetes)

Location: Remote from the US East Coast or LATAM

Salary: $220,000–$240,000 for US remote; $110,000–$125,000 for LATAM remote, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Design and build Kubernetes operators, controllers, internal APIs, deployment systems, and release tooling for installing, upgrading, and running NetBox.
• Improve NetBox and its core plugins for production reliability and performance, including application startup and PostgreSQL query performance.
• Build observability into owned software and establish standards for testing, documentation, and service-level objectives.
• Own the architecture and technical direction for how NetBox is built, released, and operated across Cloud and Enterprise.
• Lead and mentor engineers through design and code review, including the SRE function.
• Drive cross-team RFCs, release contracts, incident escalations, and postmortem follow-up with NetBox Core, Cloud, Enterprise, and Foundations teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience, including technical ownership of a production system or platform area.
• Strong Python skills and experience with production SaaS applications; Django and PostgreSQL experience is preferred.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience with operators, controllers, reconciliation loops, custom resources, and the Kubernetes API.
• Experience with application observability, including error reporting, distributed tracing, metrics, and structured logging using tools such as OpenTelemetry and Sentry.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Helm, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD or FluxCD, Terraform, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Experience leading engineering work without formal management authority, making decisions under ambiguity, mentoring engineers, and driving cross-team delivery.

Nice to have

• Rust or Go programming experience.
• Production Django and PostgreSQL experience at scale, including schema design, migration risk, and query performance.
• Experience with the NetBox ecosystem, network automation, self-managed or on-premises delivery, or open source projects.
• Experience in a B2B software startup or high-growth organization.
• Container build, supply chain security, vulnerability scanning, image signing, or SOC 2 build-pipeline experience.
