System Engineer for Science and Planetary Defence Missions (Space Systems)

What you will do

• Support the Lead System Engineer during Phase A/B1 studies for science, exploration, space safety, and planetary defence missions.
• Coordinate technical contributions from specialist engineering departments and subcontractors.
• Perform trade-offs and analyses to define mission, platform, subsystem, and overall system architectures.
• Derive and maintain requirements from satellite level down to subsystem level and support MBSE activities.
• Assess development approaches and technology readiness, and support work breakdown structures, programme plans, and implementation schedules through in-orbit commissioning.
• Analyse platform cost drivers and support technical, cost, schedule, and feasibility risk mitigation.

Requirements

• Master-level degree in aerospace engineering with a focus on space systems.
• Knowledge of science, exploration, and space safety missions.
• Competence in space mission design, satellite systems engineering, and spacecraft subsystem design.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills, with flexibility and the ability to work in international teams under tight schedules.
• Fluent spoken and written business English required.
• Proactive approach, high motivation, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Nice to have

• Industry experience in space systems engineering.
• Experience with subsystem requirements engineering and specification preparation.
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering.
• Fluency in German.
