What you will do

  • Evaluate materials for aerospace and defense applications.
  • Conduct detailed material risk assessments and develop recommendations for hazardous-material solutions.
  • Create and maintain hazardous-material databases.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and multidisciplinary teams to optimize material selection and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance on hazardous-material properties, processes, and performance.
  • Communicate technical information, design specifications, and project updates to stakeholders and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in material science or a related role; a higher relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Proficiency in understanding material properties and general knowledge of local, state, or federal hazardous-material regulations.
  • Experience or exposure to multidisciplinary design and development teams.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance are required.
  • Ability to work in an office or hybrid environment and travel occasionally if required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with spectroscopy, mechanical testing, thermal testing equipment, and associated software.
  • Familiarity with FAA, NASA, DoD, and materials-and-process regulations or approved materials databases such as MMPDS, CHM-17, AGATE, NCAMP, and MAPTIS.
  • Knowledge of aircraft and space-material environmental requirements, including flammability, toxicity, outgassing, and corrosion design.
  • Experience with System Safety analyses, MIL-STD-882, policy implementation, or technical guidance for materials and process engineering.
