Principal Software Engineer (Tax Data Platform)

Location: Onsite at the Bentonville Home Office, Bentonville, Arkansas, United States

Annual salary: $110,000–$220,000, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Define architecture and technical strategy for the TAX360 and Tax Data Hub platforms.
• Design distributed applications, APIs, data platforms, workflow engines, compute platforms, and cloud infrastructure.
• Translate tax-domain and business capabilities into scalable technical solutions and establish reusable engineering patterns.
• Guide engineering teams from architecture and experimentation through implementation, production readiness, and platform evolution.
• Build secure, governed, auditable data and workflow capabilities that improve tax data access and process execution.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering, including at least 4 years with GCP.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Scala, Spark, and SQL.
• Hands-on experience with GCP services including Dataproc, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Storage, and Vertex AI.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub, and Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of data lakes, lakehouses, data warehouses, ETL, Kappa and Lambda architectures, and data modeling.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, RAG architectures, and agentic AI systems.

Nice to have

• Google Professional certification.
• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
