TL;DR
Sr. Electromagnetics Design Engineer (Robotics & Automation): Designing inductive position sensors, encoders, and electric motors for high-precision, mission-critical automation and robotics applications with an accent on electromagnetic FEA, sensor and motor optimization, and production release. Focus on correlating simulation with physical testing, integrating coils, PCBs, ICs, and ASICs, and providing technical leadership across cross-functional engineering projects.

Location: Apex, NC, United States; onsite role

Company

hirify.global develops precision components and subsystems for healthcare, advanced manufacturing, robotics, automation, and other mission-critical applications.

What you will do

  • Lead the design of inductive resonant and eddy-current position sensors and encoders, including coil and PCB sensor patterns, targets, and sensing IC or ASIC integration.
  • Design electric motors including BLDC, PMSM, induction, and synchronous motors, covering magnetic circuits and winding configurations.
  • Optimize sensor and motor designs with electromagnetic FEA for accuracy, resolution, torque, efficiency, alignment tolerance, and environmental robustness.
  • Build prototypes, characterize performance, and correlate simulation results with testing across gap, tilt, temperature, EMI, load, and speed conditions.
  • Develop technology roadmaps, evaluate emerging technologies, benchmark competitors, and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Lead project execution and collaborate with PMO, hardware, firmware, manufacturing, quality, sales, and operations while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electromechanical engineering, or a related technical field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in electromagnetic sensor, position-sensing, encoder, and/or electric motor design.
  • Hands-on experience with inductive sensors or encoders and/or BLDC, PMSM, induction, or synchronous motor design.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic FEA tools such as Ansys Maxwell and 2D/3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of PCB design constraints, sensor IC electronics and firmware integration, signal-processing or interpolation techniques, and standards including UL, CSA, CE, IEC, IEEE, and NEMA.
  • Advanced problem-solving, decision-making, project management, communication, presentation, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, electromechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience spanning both inductive sensing and electric motor design disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of ratiometric calculation and SIN/COS interpolation for position sensing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Cross-functional work within the Robotics & Automation group.
  • Cross-training between motor design and inductive sensing disciplines.
  • 10–15% travel as required.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of 10–25 pounds may be required.
