Engineering Manager, Body Main Systems Leader (MSL) – Body Metals (Automotive)

Location: Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, or Novi, Michigan, United States, with 4–5 days per week in the office. Regular in-person meetings, company events, and travel to the manufacturing site in Columbia, South Carolina and the Innovation Center in Novi are required. A valid driver's license is required.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead Body Main Systems and SET leaders in the cradle-to-grave development of Body in White, frame, and closures systems.
• Coordinate studio, manufacturing, purchasing, finance, quality, logistics, and technical program partners.
• Deliver efficient vehicle integration against technical, cost, timing, quality, and gateway targets.
• Lead cross-functional L2 decisions and create alignment on technical solutions.
• Ensure sourcing documentation, specifications, quotation details, timing plans, and milestone deliverables are completed on schedule.
• Track issues and changes through resolution, escalating them to the Product Decision Committee when required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline; a master's degree and significant experience are advantageous.
• At least 7 years of experience in body engineering development or equivalent industry experience, including engineering team or complex cross-functional program leadership.
• Knowledge of automotive design and development processes, system requirements, engineering best practices, and first-principles physics involving loads, forces, system function, and design tradeoffs.
• Ability to manage issues to closure and deliver within cost, weight, timing, and quality constraints.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration, integrity, and self-management skills.
• Willingness to work primarily in the office and travel to suppliers, manufacturing, testing, and company facilities as required.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in engineering.
• Knowledge of Volkswagen Group tools and processes.
• Experience using AI tools to streamline processes.
