Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Madrid, Spain or Sofia, Bulgaria

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale the data platform supporting AI and data strategy.
• Curate, catalog, profile, validate, and govern data assets, including PII and sensitive data.
• Integrate data solutions with microservices, APIs, messaging systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Build reporting, data-sharing, ETL/ELT, aggregation, and analysis-ready data models and pipelines.
• Design and maintain RAG pipelines, including ingestion, chunking, embeddings, indexing, and retrieval.
• Collaborate with Data Architects, SMEs, Engineering, Architecture, Product, and Business teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or backend engineering with a data focus.
• Strong Python programming skills and hands-on SQL and PL/SQL experience with Oracle.
• Experience with data pipeline tools such as Airflow, Spark, Kafka, or Flink.
• Experience with cloud data services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT, data integration, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Understanding of RAG, embeddings, vector stores, retrieval concepts, version control, testing, and CI/CD.

Nice to have

• Experience with governed data environments, data catalogs, lineage, metadata management, or data governance.
• Knowledge of data lakes, data warehouses, dimensional modeling, and data science fundamentals.
• Exposure to enterprise systems, insurance, or financial services.
