Coding Quality Specialist (Healthcare Coding)

Location: Remote in Texas, United States; must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employment-based visa sponsorship

Salary: $56,200–$101,000 per year

What you will do

• Review complex physician clinical documentation from inpatient and outpatient medical records.
• Validate diagnostic and procedural coding against official coding guidelines and determine appropriate codes.
• Determine payment methodology and reimbursement amounts.
• Prepare written rationales for hospitals, providers, medical directors, and peer review teams.
• Conduct coding re-reviews, respond to provider appeals, and refer clinical questions to the Medical Director.
• Identify potential fraud or abuse patterns and participate in peer reviews and coding education.

Requirements

• U.S. work authorization is required; employment-based visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
• Two years of experience with Diagnosis Related Groups, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
• Associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
• One or more of the following certifications may be required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, or CPC.
• Current knowledge of Coding Clinics, coding newsletters, coding conventions, and sequencing guidelines.
