Coder - Outpatient (ICD-10/CPT)

What you will do

• Review medical records, physician treatment plans, clinical courses, and outcomes.
• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract medical and demographic data for hospital, health system, and medical staff reporting.
• Enter coded and abstracted information into designated systems.
• Support efficient management of medical information and cash flow by maintaining unbilled coding reports.
• Monitor updates to coding guidelines and apply them in daily work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completed coursework in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• At least one year of hospital or physician coding experience, including coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• At least one year of experience coding major surgeries, observations, and/or evaluation and management services.
• Strong data-entry skills, knowledge of computer applications, and ability to collaborate with healthcare teams.
• One of the following certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CPC-A.

Nice to have

• Associate's degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
