TL;DR
Engineer II, Simulation Framework (C++/Python): Developing and maintaining simulation adapters, plugins, and interfaces that connect modeling and simulation environments with autonomy software, with an accent on framework migration, distributed communications, and technical integration. Focus on porting HMSSimBlocks capabilities to HMSF, validating CIGI/DDS-based integrations, and diagnosing complex simulation and autonomy issues across logs, network traffic, APIs, and call stacks.

Location: On-site in San Diego, California or Washington, D.C.; U.S. citizenship required

Company

hirify.global develops defense technology involving autonomy software, modeling and simulation, and technical integration.

What you will do

  • Develop, compile, test, and maintain C++ and Python software for simulation adapters, plugins, and interfaces.
  • Contribute to integrations for AFSIM, NGTS, Aechelon, HMSSimBlocks, and the Hivemind Simulation Framework.
  • Support the migration of HMSSimBlocks capabilities to HMSF by porting modules, updating interfaces, validating behavior, and documenting compatibility considerations.
  • Build reusable simulation components and plugin patterns for sensors, vehicle models, effects, and mission capabilities.
  • Maintain CIGI-based interfaces and verify CSF loading, DDS communications, GRID requirements, and Hivemind SDK compatibility.
  • Investigate integration issues through logs, network traffic, DDS messages, API behavior, configuration files, and call stacks while collaborating with simulation, autonomy, and integration teams.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Foundational programming experience with C++ and Python, plus familiarity with Linux development environments, command-line tools, compilation, and scripting.
  • Understanding of Git-based version control, debugging, code review, automated testing, object-oriented programming, APIs, interfaces, and modular software design.
  • Exposure to networking concepts such as TCP, UDP, client-server communication, message passing, or data serialization.
  • Interest in modeling and simulation, autonomy, robotics, distributed systems, game engines, visualization systems, or defense technology.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. SECRET security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with simulation, robotics, autonomy, game engines, embedded systems, or vehicle modeling through internships, academic work, research, or personal projects.
  • Exposure to AFSIM, NGTS, Unreal Engine, Unity, Gazebo, ROS/ROS 2, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with DDS, ROS 2, ZeroMQ, gRPC, message queues, CIGI, DIS, HLA, CSF, or other simulation standards.
  • Experience with GoogleTest, pytest, CTest, CMake, Make, Bazel, Docker, or Podman.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on work alongside experienced engineers and senior technical mentors.
  • Collaboration with simulation, autonomy, and integration teams.
  • Participation in code reviews, design discussions, bug triage, and collaborative debugging.
  • Development of unit tests, automated integration tests, documentation, and example configurations.
