Senior Software Engineer (Real-Time Collaboration)

Location: Remote from the United Kingdom, Argentina, or Canada

Estimated base salary: £82.4K–£103K in the UK; CA$148.3K–CA$185.4K in Canada. Compensation depends on location, level, knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Own Canvas platform capabilities from problem definition through implementation, release, measurement, and iteration.
• Design and build maintainable systems for document models, spatial interactions, rendering, asset management, selection mechanics, and developer APIs.
• Build and improve concurrent, low-latency collaboration systems that synchronize shared documents across users.
• Develop AI-enabled capabilities connected to the canvas, document model, collaboration systems, and developer platform.
• Improve responsiveness through profiling, bottleneck analysis, architectural simplification, and targeted optimization.
• Contribute through technical design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, documentation, and engineering practice improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and shipping large-scale production software in an agile engineering team.
• Fluency in modern JavaScript and TypeScript, with familiarity with React, Node, or comparable frameworks.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable, high-performance systems and clean API contracts with maintainable data models, validation, error handling, versioning, and documentation.
• Experience with distributed, concurrent, collaborative, or low-latency systems, including synchronization, consistency, event ordering, latency, failure modes, and performance trade-offs.
• Strong engineering judgment and the ability to collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering using a low-ego approach.

Nice to have

• Experience with hierarchical scene or document structures, spatial indexing, layout behavior, asset management, and selection mechanics.
• Experience building or integrating AI-enabled product capabilities in production.
• Experience with parallel processing, off-main-thread architectures, rendering pipelines, background computation, or multithreaded systems.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools and agentic workflows in engineering work.
• Experience in high-growth environments or scale-ups.
