Senior Manufacturing Designer, Mechanics (Wearables)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California, with 2–3 days per week in the office; travel up to 30% internationally to manufacturing partner sites in Asia. Candidates residing in Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wisconsin are not being considered.

Salary: $172,550–$203,000 annually for Region 1 US locations.

What you will do

• Analyze industrial and product design CAD to develop jig and fixture concepts for all 10 ring sizes.
• Design machine and station concepts covering line layout, ergonomics, part flow, guarding, changeover, and automation options.
• Maintain fixture and station CAD libraries and datum scheme documentation across programs.
• Participate in DFM and DFA reviews with design teams, contract manufacturers, and equipment vendors.
• Support station buy-off and process qualification, owning fixture and station acceptance criteria.
• Collaborate with the design studio, prototype workshop, and NPI site during concept and build phases.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in fixture, tooling, automation, or manufacturing design engineering for precision consumer hardware, wearables, medical devices, or optics.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, or product design engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing fixtures, jigs, carriers, and stations shipped to contract manufacturers and used in mass production, including configuration or variant changeover.
• Strong SolidWorks or NX CAD and surfacing skills, with deep GD&T, datum scheme, and tolerance stack-up experience.
• Experience selecting fixture materials and surface treatments for glass, ceramic, titanium, and flexible circuits.
• Comfort with rapid prototyping, workshops, factory floors, laboratories, and design studios; regular physical presence is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with wearable, miniaturized, or high-precision consumer electronics.
• Experience with adhesive dispensing, soldering, flex bending, cover glass assembly, or vision inspection fixtures.
• Experience transitioning semi-automated equipment to fully automated systems with Asian equipment suppliers.
• Working knowledge of DOE, FA, and PFMEA.
• Working proficiency in Mandarin or another language relevant to manufacturing partner regions.
